Step 2a:

Save the web page that contains the "Search Box"

.

  • Find the web page that has the "Search Box" where you can enter your search request.
(Example: Let's check out the Beaucoup! web site.)

.

This is the "Search Box" at the Beaucoup! web site.

.

  • Write down (or Copy & Paste) the web site's address (URL): You may need it later!
    (For our example, it's: http://www.beaucoup.com/)

  • In order to process this page in "issp_builder" you'll need to save it to your Mac.

In Netscape, choose File --> Save As... to Save the HTML code for this page.
Be sure to save it as "Source".

.

.

If you came here from Part 4:

  • Refer to this file you've just saved as the "Input file"

Step 2b:

Check out the search box shown on the web page.

.

The web site's search feature may let you select some search options, like:
  • what kind of information to search for,
  • where to search,
  • whether to search for any word, all words, or a phrase,
  • how far back in time to search,
  • how many results to display on one page,
  • how to display the results,
  • etc.
Select the options you want to run, then run your search.

In our example, we're only given one search option: The type of information to look for. Let's select "News".

Step 2c:

Run a search at the web site, get some results, and save them.

.

  • Enter a search that you know will find some results.

For our example, we'll search for news about the iMac.
Make sure the search finds some output:
If it didn't try running another search using a more popular word or phrase.
  • The search results are usually displayed on a new page. We'll need to save a copy of this page.

In Netscape, choose File --> Save As... to Save the HTML code for this output page. Be sure to save it as "Source". (Click here to see an image)

  • Refer to this file you've just saved as the "Output file"
(Note! If you came here from Part 4, click here to go back.)

At this point, don't be concerned about how many results were found or what the results are: We'll look at this later.
